Who We Are
TOP DEMAND BREEDS
Highland Legacy Farms is a Lockhart family tradition dating back to the 1200’s AD. We raise and breed Highland Cattle at our farm in Newland, NC. Clan Lockhart, Sir Symon Locard, 2nd of Lee (1300–1371 later changed to LOCKHART) was a Scottish knight who fought in the Wars of Scottish Independence. According to Lockhart family tradition, he accompanied Sir James Douglas in their curtailed centuries’ old tradition, attempt to carry the heart of Robert the Bruce to the Holy Land in 1330. We breed the most highly sought after Highland Cattle in the United States.
At Highland Legacy Farms, we take great pride in raising quality cattle that would make great additions to any ranch. We strive for excellence when it comes to our animals’ health and overall well-being and make sure that each animal is given the best upbringing. We firmly believe that by giving our animals the best environment, we can help them reach their full potential.
The Highland is known for its hardiness, long life span, good milk production, and mild-mannered temperament. We also specialize in breeding new lines of registered bulls that can increase or improve the genetics of a herd.
